COVID-19 VACCINE UPDATE
I am writing again, to give you a timely update on the status of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Firstly, my staff and I have received countless calls and messages from you, and I would like to thank you for trusting us as a reliable source for information. We have heard your frustration, your questions and your concerns. We may not have all the answers, but we are listening.
It has been just over a week since the Governor’s announcement to include Coloradans age 70 and older in Phase 1b of the COVID-19 vaccination plan and several thousand of this group have received their first dose. That being said, Colorado has over 550,000 persons age 70 or older. The main issue remains vaccine shortage. Colorado is currently receiving 70,000 doses per week all doses are being delivered each week. In many counties, the vaccine doses are still being utilized for healthcare providers and first-responders.
Another point that is worth noting, is the recent White House recommendation to include persons age 65 and older in the group eligible to receive the vaccine. As of today, Colorado has NO plans to follow that recommendation. The primary focus of the Colorado COVID vaccine plan is to complete vaccination to all healthcare providers, all first-responders, all Coloradans 70 years and older, and finally all nursing home and long-term care facilities residents and employees.
Where can I receive the vaccine?
If you are already a patient of UC Health, Denver Health, the VA, Banner Health, Boulder Community Health, SLC Healthcare and/or Centura healthcare, you are likely already “on the list” to receive the vaccine. Check your patient portal for more information and possibly how to register, if it was not done automatically based on your age. Vaccination is by “invitation only” which is typically coming via phone or email.
If you are NOT a patient within these systems, there are new options available and more coming:
- Kaiser has vaccine for non-members. You can search online for Kaiser Colorado COVID vaccine or copy/type in:
Look for Non-Members and follow link to register. Do not worry about the first 3 questions, it is okay to answer NO to all 3. The questionnaire will continue and allow you to report your age and any other risk factors.
- UC Health has vaccine for non-members. You can search UC Health COVID vaccine or copy/type in:
Scroll down to “Sign up for My Health Connection” and follow the directions for setting up a patient portal and registering for the vaccine.
- Per the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, they expect that several commercial pharmacies (Safeway, Kroger, CVS and Walgreens) to receive more substantial allotments of vaccine in the next 1-2 weeks. Be watching for more information on how to schedule through these options.
The state has set a goal to complete vaccination for all Coloradans age 70 and older by the end of February. Be patient, your vaccine is coming.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our office. I ask, again, for patience. We will do our best to provide you with the most current information available, but this continues to be a rapidly changing situation.
